Pre-Storage Considerations
Campsite: If possible, remove the camper shell from the vehicle and place it in a secure campsite. Make sure the ground is level and clean so it won’t cause damage to the shell. Secure any bolts or other hardware that you need access to.
Tools and Supplies Needed: Prior to storing the camper shell, gather up all of the tools and supplies you will need such as a tape measure, screws, nuts, bolts and washers. Other items suchl as silicone lubricant may be needed to lubricate door hinges and locking mechanisms prior to storage.
Cover the Shell – Use a waterproof tarp or fitted camper cover before storing for added protection. Before putting the cover on, inspect for any holes in waterproofing material, then repair them with a patch if necessary. Place any air vents facing upwards so that water doesn’t get in through them during storage.
Support Structure – Construct a support structure around the camper shell using two-by-fours or pieces of metal pipes secured together at each corner securely with lag bolts. This will ensure that even when stored outdoors weather elements don’t damage your camping equipment or accessories stored inside of it.
Storing Indoors – If there is enough room indoors, store your camper shell indoors out of direct sunlight in an area where humidity can be controlled. If indoors storage is not an option try covering your structure with a heavy tarp or cover heavily insulated to prevent condensation buildup while protecting against UV rays and extreme temperatures outside your home or enclosure area are ideal solutions for keeping your campershell safe from rust and corrosion during storage periods.

Lastly, don’t forget to remove any necessary items such as food or gas tanks that can cause damage while in storage.
